I wanted to make sure to get this post up before the holidays because this is exactly the kind of thing you want to be eating on Christmas morning, with a hot beverage in your hand, in front of the fire, and possibly while opening some presents. It’s decadent, but still tastes like breakfast and not dessert. It’s also very easy to make and serve if you are having a bunch of people over for the holidays.
Recipe adapted from here.
Ingredients
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1. Preheat the oven to 350. In the bowl of your stand mixer, add the flour, salt, white sugar, baking powder, milk, eggs, and vanilla. Then mix fully with the paddle attachment. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. Slowly add the melted butter and mix again until the butter is fully incorporated.
2. Grease a 9 x 13 pan. Pour the mixed ingredients into the pan.
3. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Sprinkle over pan evenly.
4. Using a knife or toothpick, swirl the topping to create a design of your choice.
5. Bake the cake for about 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
6. While the cake is baking, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in the bowl of your stand mixer with the whisk attachment until it is smooth. When the cake is done baking, drizzle this on top.
